We are thrilled to share that Gender Centre member, Professor Lorraine Sherr, has received an MBE for services to vulnerable children and families in the New Year Honours List.
A Professor of Clinical and Health Psychology, she runs the Health Psychology Unit at UCL. At the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic as part of the UKRI Global Challenges Research Fund team, Professor Sherr and her team including Prof Lucie Cluver, Dr Jamie Lachman, UNICEF, WHO, USAID and others, put together COVID-19 parenting tips, reaching over 134 million users and keeping the mental health and child development issues to the forefront amidst isolation and lockdown.
On receiving her honour, Professor Sherr said: "I am quite humbled by this award as my work is a mosaic put together with the endeavours of many.
"This will only spur me on to continue: when we obliterate vulnerability then my work will be done. Until then it is our collective responsibility to ensure that no family, no child and no-one who is destitute stands alone; there must always be a resource to provide for them and their children."
We are incredibly proud of Professor Sherr and her team's well-deserved award. Congratulations- a wonderful start to the new year!
